Meet the Surgeon

Dr. Wendell L. Funk

Dr. Funk grew up in a large farming family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and attended Franklin and Marshall College, where he received a B.A. in Biology. Upon completion of his studies at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Wendell Funk received an M.D. degree in 1976. Subsequently, he completed his internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh in 1977 and his residency in Urology at the University Health Center of Pittsburgh in 1981. After practicing urology for four years in Hanover and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Funk elected to pursue a new career as a plastic surgeon. In 1985, he entered a residency program at the Ohio State University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Plastic Surgery in 1987.

After residency, Dr. Funk elected to pursue additional studies and entered a prestigious fellowship in Reconstructive Genitourinary and Plastic Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia.

After receiving his training in these distinguished and prestigious centers of education, he was selected to become a member of an elite group of cosmetic plastic surgeons who completed a fellowship in cosmetic surgery in New York City at the world-famous Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital in 1988, under the surgical training of some of the most famous cosmetic plastic surgeons in the world. Only a small percentage of cosmetic surgeons actually complete an additional six to 12-month fellowship in cosmetic surgery in such prestigious medical environments. A fellowship is extensive educational and hands-on surgical training electively taken after a mandatory residency.

After residency, Dr. Funk elected to pursue additional studies and entered a prestigious fellowship in Reconstructive Genitourinary and Plastic Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Funk also completed a fellowship in cosmetic surgery in New York City at the world-famous Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital in 1988, under the surgical training of some of the most famous cosmetic plastic surgeons in the world. He was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1991.

His practices in Lancaster, York, and Camp Hill are state-of-the-art; he is a plastic surgeon that practices exclusively cosmetic, or aesthetic, surgery of the face, breast, and body. In addition, Dr. Funk uses his cosmetic talents for facial skin cancer reconstruction in selected patients.

Wendell Funk, M.D., is very active in his community, volunteering his time for music, the arts, theatre, and church. He also serves on the board of the Fulton Theatre, the Lancaster County Historical Society, and the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in addition to other civic, charitable, and religious organizations. Dr. Funk’s hobbies include playing the piano, swimming, collecting antiques, flying, theater, playing tennis, traveling, and the culinary arts.
