Eyelid surgery is designed to correct droopy, sagging upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids that can make you appear tired or older than your true age. An eye lift, or blepharoplasty, can restore the skin around your eyes to its natural, youthful appearance, reducing the signs of aging. While an eye lift is usually a cosmetic procedure, occasionally the removal of the excess skin can improve vision impaired by sagging upper eyelid skin and meet criteria qualifying for reimbursement by certain medical insurance carriers.
The upper eyelid procedure begins with a small incision made along the eyelid crease. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then gently trimmed away from the eyelid. This outpatient surgery typically takes about one hour and is performed for patients under sedation or general anesthesia by Dr. Funk.
The lower eyelid incision can either be placed inside the eyelid (transconjunctival) or inconspicuously under the eyelashes (subciliary). Sometimes, remaining fine lines can be softened using a cosmetic laser or chemical peels. Eyelid surgery results are long-lasting, although aging will continue in the future. The final effects provide a rested and youthful appearance. For more information about eyelid surgery, please contact Dr. Funk, serving Lancaster, York, Camp Hill, and nearby communities.
